What our numbers mean, and — more importantly — what they don’t.

A ranking is not a judgement
Heat measures momentum: how fast attention is growing and how widely a topic is being covered. It does not measure importance, accuracy, or merit. A viral clip can outrank a policy decision that matters far more. That is a description of public attention, not our opinion of it.
Not advice
Nothing here is financial, investment, legal, medical or tax advice. Money coverage describes what happened and what sources said about it. It is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything, and no part of it is tailored to your circumstances.
Developing situations
Trends are, by definition, unfinished. Early reporting is sometimes wrong, and we may publish something that later turns out to be incorrect. When that happens we correct it in public — see corrections.
The timeline on each trend page exists so you can see how the story changed, rather than only its latest state.
Third-party reporting
We summarise and link to other outlets’ work. We verify what we can against the original, but we cannot independently confirm every claim another publisher makes. Where sources disagree, we say so rather than choosing for you.
Automation
Detection, scoring and drafting are automated, with verification before publication. The AI transparency page lists the specific ways that automation is known to fail.
